I am currently on L1B visa and it expires in September 2012. I want to apply for H1B visa.
Updated answer (October 31, 2026). An L-1B worker may be eligible for H-1B status only if a qualifying employer files an H-1B petition for an eligible specialty occupation and the beneficiary meets the position’s requirements. Depending on the employer and petition, the H-1B cap and registration process or a recognized cap exemption may apply. The availability of an in-country change of status depends on the person’s status and admissibility history, timely filing, and other restrictions. H-1B approval for consular notification does not by itself authorize work in H-1B status in the United States. Review the I-94 expiration and the available cap or cap-exempt route before the L-1B stay ends; do not assume a status bridge will arise automatically.
